Popular Asset Commissions: Building a Green Democratic Haringey

This briefing paper has been produced by Abundance to inform the Haringey Green Party’s manifesto for the 2026 local elections. It sets out how a Popular Asset Commission could become a defining feature of a new wave of progressive local government action, putting assets and resources in the hands of local communities.

"There is a historic opportunity for local authorities to turn the tide on decades of wealth extraction and austerity. But this can’t happen through tinkering at the edges or through “better management” of business as usual. We need a new logic of government, and a new set of institutions to support it. We need to fundamentally shift who has power, enabling residents to become the central protagonists in determining the future of their communities."
